Bandstand back on song

Shoppers joined in with dance, exercise and live music in the town centre on Easter weekend in an event that heralded the start of a new era of life for Billingham’s bandstand.

Town Centre owners, Stockland UK, have handed control of the bandstand to the community and were delighted to see the flurry of activity organised by the Billingham Community Newspaper in collaboration with Mattie Campbell of Fracture Theatre to mark the occasion. Read more...

 

Super Stars seal silverware

Billingham Stars ice hockey team finished the league season in style as they claimed their first title in their inaugural season defeating Blackburn Hawks 4-2 in the final game of the season.

The Stars had claimed the title a week prior after a 2-2 draw with Trafford. However, the Blackburn game gave them a chance to turn on the heat and produce some exhibition ice hockey for the fans.

Stars shined in the first period, with goals from Anthony Price and James Uddell being enough to give them a 2-0 lead. Hawks did pull a goal back through Gareth Owen. However James Uddell scored his second of the night to restore the two goal lead.

There was still time for the Hawks to cut the score to 3-2. However Andy Fletcher found an empty net, minutes from the end to seal a 4-2 win.  The win capped off an impressive season.
