An inspirational Billingham-based care leader has been shortlisted at this year’s prestigious National Care Awards.
Andy Hood, Service Leader of Tees Alive in Billingham, has been shortlisted for the Special Needs Manager award. Tees Alive is a day care service that o ers adults with learning disabilities an innovative programme of leisure, education and vocational opportunities. It is part of national social care charity, Community Integrated Care.
e award recognises his commitment and dedication, as well as the positive impact he, and his team, has had on the people they support, their families and the local community.
Andy played an instrumental role in setting up Tees Alive in 2014. e service now supports 52 people in Billingham enabling them to take part in a huge range of activities such as multi-media sessions, sports, cooking, photography and performing arts.
One of Andy’s greatest achievements has been his creation of a pioneering partnership with Middlesbrough FC Foundation. is sees people supported at Tees Alive access specialist coaching from the club every week. ey have also enjoyed visits from star players and have been invited as guests of honour to matches.
The National Care Awards celebrate excellence in the care sector, rewarding those who work tirelessly to provide consistently outstanding care. e glittering award ceremony will take place on 25th November 2016 at the Hilton London Metropole, hosted by actor Larry Lamb.

I am very lucky to work with a fantastic team who support amazing people and inspire me every day – I just enjoy being able to give people the opportunity to lead better and more ful lling lives.”
