What do you do when you’re totally passionate about the young people that you work with over 5 sessions every week at BCT Aspire in Billingham? When you know the windows need to be replaced and the facilities need improving and that the young people rely on you? What do you do when you know it needs to be done but that the co ers are totally bare? Well if you’re Paul Burgum – you take bare to a whole new limit, you choose to raise vital funds for BCT Aspire by walking the epic Wainwright’s Coast to Coast in your BARE FEET – yes all 192 miles of it!
Paul said ‘A er completing walks over 1000’s of miles, runs that exceeded a 100 miles I wanted to nd a new way to test myself, which had become running without any shoes on. So taking on the epic Wainright’s Coast to Coast,190 mile of fells, mountain, moor and trail, not exactly easy on the feet but a feat that is both mentally and physically challenging, to demonstrate to the young people that I work with on the Duke of Edinburgh Awards schemes and in our music sessions at BCT Aspire that anything is possible with hard work, passion and resilience.’
With a target of £2000.00 and, the young people themselves wanting to do their bit to help, one Duke of Edinburgh group, under the leadership of Chloe Bell organised a 192 mile cycle challenge using exercise bikes to try and match mile for mile the physical challenge Paul was undergoing.
Other young people took on sponsored sports fest, runs, walks to contribute to the fundraising.
