On Sunday 12th June, The Mall in St James’s Park will be transformed for its largest ever street party to celebrate The Queen’s 90th birthday.
Here in Billingham Town Centre – we are doing our own community version, with already over 350 residents pledged to attend and celebrate ‘The Big Lunch’ running between 12:00 – 18:00 hrs with a host of local talent performing on our Community Band Stand right in the middle of town.
We have young and old attending with residents from Wynyard Woods Residential Home and Hadrian’s Park Residential Home bringing their elderly to join with us, along with local groups such as The Royal British Legion, Billingham Bowling Club, Billingham Junior Football club as we celebrate and honour HM The Queen in our wholly volunteer ran event.
We have Tapshoes and Tutu’s kicking off this event and will be performing throughout to help get our community into the spirit of celebrations.
We’ve Nathan Duff, BCT Aspire, The Alice Charmers, Samantha Durnan and culminating with our headline act ‘Nigel Clark’ ex Dodgy, who is literally playing Isle of Wight Festival then boarding a ferry, to then drive up the country to perform in Billingham – totally outstanding effort before he even performs!
We’ve a host of children’s games and activities, we’re also asking all children to colour their crown’s and wear them when we all sing the National Anthem at 3pm followed by some community singing (with more dancing from Tapshoes and Tutu’s)
We’re grateful to support from St Modwen’s for permissions to use the town centre for our huge event, Paul Burgum MD at BCT Aspire for pulling together a fabulously eclectic mix of talent to perform for us, local businesses who helped with contributions towards event delivery including Billingham Legacy Foundation, Low Vision, Queensway Dental, Fujifilm and Tesco – a huge thank you!
The official organisers of The Big Lunch – Eden Project and The Big Lottery, have asked us to be a media hub on the day as we have so much going on – well it will be our pleasure to share our story nationwide and hopefully, you will also share locally our good news.
Please share with your staff and networks, help us make this a truly great event. If interested in attending, to contact me to secure free space for their families, after the tables have been reserved, you will need to bring your own tables and chairs, or a picnic rug to sit on to enjoy this fabulous community celebration.
